The Evolution Of TV For British Asians, According To Citizen Khan

The issue of immigration is rarely out of the headlines and it was no different fifty years ago, when thousands of Indians and Pakistanis came to Britain.

In response, the BBC launched its Immigration Programme Unit designed to help newcomers cope with everyday situations.

Adil Ray, star and creator of the sitcom Citizen Khan, looks at how those early shows developed into programmes that reflect the lives of British Asians today.

Race, Religion Hate Crimes Rise, Show Statistics

Home Office statistics on hate crime, released today, show that recorded race  hate crimes have risen 15% since last year. Also, recorded religion hate crimes have risen 43% since last year.

In total, 82% of  recorded hate crimes last year were race hate crimes and 6% of recorded hate crimes were religion hate crimes.

A hate crime is a crime against an individual or group of people based on their identity. Victims can be targeted for a disability, their race, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Hate Crimes are devastating crimes, targeting people simply because of who they are. It leaves people physically and psychologically scarred, and the statistics show these types of crime are on the rise in the UK.

Childless British Asian Couples Urged To Consider Using Non-Asian Donor Eggs

Childless British Asian couples could consider using donor eggs from Caucasian women to avoid waiting or missing out on having a baby, says a fertility specialist.

Consultant Neelam Potdar says there is a chronic shortage of Asian egg donors.

UK figures show that between 2009 and 2013, 2,967 white women donated their eggs compared with 83 women of Indian or Pakistani ethnicity.
